Sworn interpreters and translators are certified interpreters and translators with an oath taken at a district/ regional court. This with they have proven their particular expertise and affinity for language as required by official authorities and courts as well as notaries and, in most cases, assume a quasi-public authority. Due to all this, they are obligated to confidentiality and must transfer the spoken or written text into the required language in a reliable and respectful way.

A court interpreter provides a certified translation. The certified translation is a translation of a document made by a court-appointed interpreter (sworn / certified interpreter) who applies his signature and seal to certify that the translated document corresponds to the original.
The certified translation document is bound with the submitted document (which can be either the original or a copy of the original) and delivered to the client.
Certified translations are considered and used as official documents in the Republic of Croatia and abroad.

For many official documents that have to be submitted to an authority and that are of official nature (e.g. diplomas, passports, driver’s licenses, birth certificates, notarized documents, certificates and other personal as well as legal documents), translations are to be done by a sworn interpreter / certified translator. These documents, often also known as “certified translations” are considered original documents in the target language. For these documents, the accuracy and completeness of the translation provided is confirmed with the official stamp and the signature of the certified court interpreter.
